Welcome to Espressobar Gast – Your Neighborhood Café in Leidsebuurt, Haarlem.
Nestled in the heart of Haarlem’s historic Leidsebuurt neighborhood, Espressobar Gast has always been a part of this vibrant community. My name is Ties Akkerman, and in January 2023 I had the pleasure of taking over Gast from Jody Koenders and Evan Schomaker, continuing the legacy of this beloved neighborhood spot. Whether you’re a veteran or a new face to the area, Gast is here for everyone.

The Leidsebuurt has a rich history, with the foundation stone laid in 1880. This corner of Brouwersstraat and Gasthuislaan has long been a hub of local commerce. Many years ago it was home to a butcher shop, followed by London Snacks (see the photo from 1980!), and until late 2018 Mario’s Happy Snacks, a span of 30 years. It felt like the right time to bring coffee into the mix.
At Gast, we offer more than just great coffee—we’re a community gathering place. So whether you’re here for a morning coffee, lunch with friends, or just to soak up the neighborhood vibe, we’d love to welcome you.

Stooker Specialty Coffee
Know where it comes from.
A better world starts with yourself. That's why we work with sustainable coffee beans. The total coffee consumption in the Netherlands amounts to about 18.6 billion cups of coffee annually.
Unfortunately, many of these cups do not come from a fair, environmentally friendly process, let alone harvested with fair wages. That's why we find it important to know where the beans come from and how that process unfolds. We are proud to serve Stooker Specialty Coffee and are very pleased with our partnership with them.

Espressobar Gast is the place in Haarlem’s Leidsebuurt for the best coffee, a delicious breakfast, an extensive lunch, and freshly baked treats. Since 2023, Gast has been managed with care and passion by Ties Akkerman, who strives for high quality in everything we offer. Alongside coffee and meals, we also organize special events, such as private parties and wine tastings.
